Letter to the Editor Suppression of thermonuclear reactions in dense plasmas instead of Salpeter’s enhancement

چکیده
A kinetic description of collective plasma effects for the thermonuclear reaction rates based on the generalization of modern plasma fluctuation approach shows that, in contrast to Salpeter’s enhancement, a decrease of the thermonuclear reaction rates is present which is larger for larger nuclei charge. By numerical evaluation of the thermonuclear reaction rates in the solar interior it is found that the decrease approaches a factor 1/2 for reactions with Be nuclei, and this could be relevant for the problem of solar neutrino deficit.

Dynamic Screening in Thermonuclear Reactions
It has recently been argued that there are no dynamic screening corrections to Salpeter’s enhancement factor in thermonuclear reactions, in the weak-screening limit. The arguments used were: 1) The Gibbs probability distribution is factorable into two parts, one of which, exp(−β∑ eiej/rij) (β = 1/kBT ), is independent of velocity space; and 2) The enhancement factor is w = 1 + βeZ1Z2〈φ〉 with 〈φ...

We study the plasma correlation effects on nonresonant thermonuclear reactions of carbon and oxygen in the interiors of white dwarfs and liquid envelopes of neutron stars. We examine the effects of electron screening on thermodynamic enhancement of thermonuclear reactions in dense plasmas beyond the linear mixing rule. Using these improved enhancement factors, we calculate carbon and oxygen ign...

We study the impact of plasma correlation effects on nonresonant thermonuclear reactions for various stellar objects, namely in the liquid envelopes of neutron stars, and the interiors of white dwarfs, low-mass stars, and substellar objects. We examine in particular the effect of electron screening on the enhancement of thermonuclear reactions in dense plasmas within and beyond the linear mixin...
متن کاملScreening in Thermonuclear Reaction Rates in the Sun
We evaluate the effect of electrostatic screening by ions and electrons on low-Z thermonuclear reactions in the sun. We use a mean field formalism and calculate the electron density of the screening cloud using the appropriate density matrix equation of quantum statistical mechanics. Because of well understood physical effects that are included for the first time in our treatment, the calculate...
